Librarian (full-time, term time)

The Perse is one of the country’s leading co-educational independent day schools, providing a high quality education to pupils aged 3 – 18 in Cambridge.

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Librarian with a strong interest in children’s literature and experience of managing a library, ideally within an educational setting.

The Librarian will be responsible for the development, management, and promotion of the school library as an essential learning environment for all students and staff. The Librarian plays a key role in providing individualised service, encouraging reading for pleasure, facilitating independent learning and research, promoting intellectual curiosity and scholarship and supporting teaching and learning requirements throughout the school.


Working Hours
This post is full time for 38.75 hours per week. Normal working hours are Monday to Friday 9.30 am – 5.45 pm, with a half hour lunch break (unpaid).

This post is: term time1 only (35 weeks), although the Librarian may be required to work for a few days in the school holidays each year to complete stock taking or prepare for the new term. Such additional days will be by negotiation with the successful applicant.

1 Term time is defined as the published school term dates, plus two additional days immediately preceding the published start date of the Michaelmas term, and one additional day immediately prior to the published start date of the Lent term each academic year.

However, you may be required to work such additional hours as the needs of the job require. No extra payment will be made for this additional time but, where appropriate, time off in lieu will be given, with the agreement of the Bursar.

The starting salary will be competitive and reflect the skills and expertise of the successful applicant.

Paid holiday entitlement is 6 weeks including Bank holidays per annum, which must be taken during School holidays.
