Now, we are looking for an Information Officer to support the smooth running of our library service.

Our library is a world-class engineering resource containing key databases, journals and texts. Users can search across 15 databases to access a huge array of information and can explore our extensive archives and artefacts.

You’ll be based in our magnificent Edwardian home in Birdcage Walk, which overlooks St James's Park and is just moments away from HM Treasury, the Houses of Parliament and Horse Guards Parade.

Your Role

As an Information Officer, you will ensure that our library service is run in a successful manner.

Primarily, you will respond to members’ technical and business information enquiries, as well as fulfilling document supply requests.

You will also play a key part in promoting our library service using social media and other channels in partnership with our Marketing Department.

Additionally, you will:

  • Manage our inter-library loan service catalogue, process and abstract titles
  • Utilise the library’s databases and resources to respond to queries
  • Write articles for our institution’s publications and make social media posts
  • Curate content for our professional development platforms
  • Test and set-up new digital library resources
  • Provide tours of the building to small groups
  • Collate usage statistics
  • Occasionally train library service users via webinars and presentations

About You

To join us as an Information Officer, you will need:

  • Experience of working in an information or library environment, configuring library catalogues and information systems and promoting and marketing an information service
  • Experience of providing digital information services, such as eBooks or eJournals to remote offsite users
  • Experience of enquiry work and providing an effective, customer-focused service
  • Experience of cataloguing to AACR2 and DDC standards
  • Database and advanced online searching skills with knowledge of key information sources
  • A qualification, ideally a postgraduate qualification, in Library Science or similar

Experience of any of the following would be beneficial: the OLIB OCLC library management system, discovery tools such as EBSCO Discovery Service or Summon, utilising social media to provide and promote information services, offering user skills training, working with archives, answering technical or engineering enquiries, or engineering and technical databases.
