As a Subject Acquisitions Specialist, you will:

• Contribute as a member of a team to the effective management and operation of the Acquisition and Technical Services segment and ensure that the highest standards of operation are maintained.
• Participate in the stock acquisition process and maintain records of material on order; and deal with emails regarding availability, substitution of alternatives, changes of editions, track shipping and receiving of materials.
• Ensure accountability procedures are complied with and make claims for missing parts and short supply of items.
• Perform quality control checks of all material received to determine processing specification are adhered to and barcodes, RFID tags, labels, jacketing and classification is of the required quality.
• Input, update and maintain acquisition records in the Integrated Library Management System to ensure database integrity with the cataloguing module.

The library has been building its collections and requires two designated Subject Acquisition Specialists (to cover both English and Arabic languages) to aid in the ongoing acquisition process. Currently, one Library champion is handling all library-related issues including the acquisition of English material. In the absence of an Arabic Acquisition Specialist, acquisitions of Arabic material have yet to start.

The ideal candidates should have the following criteria:

• An associate degree in Library Science/Information
• 3 years’ experience in an academic or public library
• The ability to speak, read and write fluently in English
• Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System
