We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to assist with the provision of high quality library and archive services to meet the needs of CEH scientists. You will be based at our Lancaster site but will be providing support to scientists from across all the CEH sites. The primary roles of this post will be to:

The science archive contains papers and samples from CEH research projects for long term retention
  • conduct annual reviews of appraisal dates, liaising with scientists over retention or disposal. Liaise with the facilities team over management of the space and any disposal of items
  • respond to library and archive enquiries from CEH staff and external requestors in person, by phone and online. Working with other members of the team in Wallingford and providing cover when necessary
  • undertake the daily administrative processes for the Lancaster site library (receive, record, circulate and shelve library materials) and to provide occasional training to existing and new members of staff, including new starter inductions
  • contribute to the development of the archive and information services.

It is essential that you have proven ability to communicate effectively with peers and more senior staff as well as having the ability to work independently, knowing when to seek advice and guidance when solving problems.

You must have evidence of working in a team, making active contributions and providing support to other team members.

You will have effective IT skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office packages and proven ability to learn new systems quickly and to feel comfortable using them.
