Job Description

This post supports the development of Surrey Scholarship Online, University of Surrey’s open access repository of the full text of peer reviewed research publications. This important component of Library and Learning Support Services infrastructure of support for research is currently being integrated with new software under development in support of the institution’s REF submission. The role involves advocacy and training to support and extend the deposit of publications, including work with academic staff, faculty managers and faculty information officers, advising and supporting development of open access policies and the collection of material for inclusion. You will carry out quality assurance of metadata and assist with the resolution of copyright and IPR issues associated with making such publications available on open access. In connection with this, you will develop your knowledge of copyright as this applies to the digital repository. You will raise issues with the software supplier so that practical problems can be resolved quickly and efficiently. A graduate with sound IT skills and an excellent communicator, you will have experience of working in a Higher Education context, you will have an interest in developing knowledge and awareness of research publishing, copyright and open access. Experience of working in scholarly communication (preparing work for publication, working for a commercial publishing house) or of digital repositories would be desirable.
