Job Description


The Geological Society is seeking an experienced, energetic and innovative Library and Information Services Manager to be based in our Burlington House apartments on Piccadilly. The Society’s library comprises a world class collection of journals, books, maps and archival content covering the full range of the Earth sciences, used by Society members and others.

The successful candidate will:

  • Work with our experienced library team to manage the collections and develop and expand the range of information services for individual and corporate users.
  • Take a leading role in identifying opportunities to increase content usage by Society members and others, and generate new revenue streams for the Society.
  • Develop programmes for the digital capture and online delivery of key library holdings and archival material.
  • Implement measures to utilise library space and facilities to best effect.
  • Manage the library budget efficiently, directing resources to maximise impact and effectiveness.
  • Work with the Director of Publishing, Library and Information Services to explore possible synergies with the Society’s highly productive and successful publishing operation.
  • Have several years experience in an academic, corporate or learned society library or information services environment, and proven ability in delivering change.
  • Have a track record of developing and launching new products and services for identified client groups.

Applicants should have a relevant, recognised qualification in the library and information services field. An ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with a wide range of colleagues and services users is essential, as is familiarity with working in a digital environment and experience of rigorous financial management .
