£30,122- £33,883 a year, with the opportunity to progress to £37,012 (salary under review from 1st August)

This is a joint appointment between the University of Worcester and Worcestershire County Council .

Full time, permanent role to start as soon as possible

Responsible to: Director of Information and Learning Services at the University of Worcester, and the Strategic Libraries and Learning Manager in Worcestershire County Council

Responsible for: All staff providing library services while in The Hive

This is probably the most exciting post available in libraries in the UK at the moment.

Opening in July 2012, The Hive is the first joint public and university library in Europe, and the Library Services Manager is a joint appointment between the University of Worcester and Worcestershire County Council. The post holder will be an exceptional leader, committed to the educational, cultural and social values implicit in a joint venture of this kind, who will ensure the integrated and seamless delivery of an outstanding library service to all members of the community, recognising the specialist and diverse needs of all users.

This challenging post requires someone who is able to balance the needs of people with educational and academic purpose with community engagement and the provision of library services to all members of the wider Worcestershire community, including children and older people:

The Hive Library Services Manager will be employed by the University of Worcester on behalf of both partners and will report to the Strategic Libraries and Learning Manager of Worcestershire County Council as well as the Director of Information and Learning Services at the University of Worcester. The post holder will be on the departmental senior management team of both organisations, and will also be part of the wider governance arrangements of The Hive. The person appointed must be able to ensure that the library service at The Hive is fulfilling the strategic objectives shared by both partners, and that it is contributing to the individual and wider context in which the County Council and University each separately operate.

The person appointed must have outstanding skills in leading and managing teams. Library services at The Hive will be delivered by colleagues employed by both the public and university library, and the manager will ensure that the customer facing service is entirely seamless to all users. Much work has already been done on developing a framework of shared values and behaviour, and you will have an enthusiastic and skilled team to work with.

The Hive is also the home of the Worcestershire County Council's History, Archives and Archaeology service, and the Worcester Hub, Customer Services Centre. The post holder will be expected to work closely with all service heads to ensure services are co-ordinated for the different audiences and customer groups at The Hive, and an interdisciplinary approach to educational and cultural programmes wherever possible.
