The best Temporary Jobs for Librarians and Information Professionals
Graduates from non-library and information disciplines and who have no or little library and information work experience can use CILIP’s Graduate Training Opportunities scheme to get their career in this profession off to flying start.
Use the list of Graduate Training Opportunities to help you find paid experience to introduce you to library and information work and prepare you for studying a CILIP accredited course.
The CILIP Graduate Training Opportunities scheme offers employers the chance to recruit good, motivated graduates at entry level roles. The normal length of the traineeship is one year, which will help the trainees enrol on a CILIP accredited postgraduate course. This experience can be enhanced by offering candidates opportunities to undertake training or visit other libraries and information services.
Employers can agree to use the SCONUL Code of Practice (www.sconul.ac.uk/)
1. to provide the trainees with an overall view of the library system, including its relationship with other libraries, so that they can appreciate how different elements within the library are integrated 2. to aim to give the trainees work experience at a level commensurate with their abilities, in the day-to-day operation of a major area of activity 3. to provide structured training whether by giving work experience in several departments and/or by participating in a formal internal training programme
